The world of concentrate is a celebrated one among all the cannabis connoisseurs. For many of us, raw flowers hit the right spot, but when it comes to expanding your horizons, concentrates and oils are the undisputed kings.

Legal extracts, dabs, and hash have a very peculiar and unique style of being converted from the green magic into something even more mystic and of course, potent. The wide variety and their burst of authentic flavours, large clouds of smoke, the unbelievable high make them well deserving of having their own day. It's only fair that on the occasion of 710 day, we take a trip beyond the buds.

Before we dive into the world of resin, hash and others, let's see what 710 day is all about.

What is 710 day?

We are all pretty familiar with 420, and associate it with weed, marijuana, and anything cannabis. The use of 420 has been associated with weed for centuries now with almost everyone, even the novice smokers, having an idea of what it means.

But the recent monumental celebration of 710 day has a rather disputed origin. The first memory I have of 710 celebrations was back in 2012 when the 7/10 Cup celebrated the varied types of cannabis extracts and oils. Of course, it could have been used before that also with no clear clarity of whose genius idea was it to look at OIL and flip the words to make it a date.

Seriously, 710 is just that. You flip OIL upside down and you get 710. Something only a stoner could do! And now you open your social media to a flush of 710 hashtags, celebration, and general excitement among the entire community. Loving the 710 day vibes!

Let's celebrate the world of extracts!

1. Diamonds

Diamond

Sparkly real diamond or cannabis - the feeling of ecstatic remains the same!

Diamonds are very aptly named, as their end product is a blingy, diamond-like extract that gets you hooked up! They are formed when THCA is left in the dark for long hours, which allows them to nucleate or clump together into crystals. They are then left to grow, which gives us the beautiful THCA diamond that we all love very much.

A little bit on the pricey side due to time and labour, THCA diamonds are loved by aficionados for their potency and flavour. And it is only fair to add them to our 710 lists of extracts!

Diamonds are almost always paired with terpene sauce since THCA- on its own- does not have an intoxicating or long-lasting effect. To widen the dimension and to experience a full-body effect, we have to couple it with terpenes.

Now the fun part- how do we dab these mesmerizing crystals?

It's a little tedious process but given human's innate attraction to shine and gems, you might enjoy it. The first step is to crush up the amount of diamond you want to smoke. Then mix it with terpene sauce and place them in a dab. We usually use low-temperature quartz banger to get that slow burn which allows experiencing the complete flavour and effect.

2. Sauce

Terpene-Sauce

If you were confused in the previous point, wondering what a sauce is - this one is for you.

The ever-expanding world of cannabis now steps into the future and brings to us the very potent, aromatic, and powerful effects of a cannabis sauce.

Made with flash-frozen cannabis buds, it is curated to give you the best humanly possible experience of dabbing. Previously, the cannabinoids were the start and end of the cannabis world. But with recent discoveries and research, people have been shifting their unconditional love towards the potent king- terpenes.

The sauce extracts are generally high in terpene which lends them the powerful aroma that awakens your endocannabinoid system. Moreover, during the making process, it goes through decarboxylation which converts the THCA into the potent and intoxicating, THC.

Get yourself seriously ripped with Sauce!

3. Shatter

I am sure you have heard about shatter, even if you're remotely interested in the sticky cannabis world. It is one of the most popular cannabis extracts and might just be the most good-looking one too. The name for the concentrate stems from the glass-like thin consistency that can be 'shattered' easily. Most people like this caramel candy, mustard colour concentrate for its high potency. A little hard to handle, the sticky concentrate is mostly curated from CHO and PHO extracts, and lined with THC and CBD.

If you're a novice, I would recommend starting with something less potent and easier to smoke. Shatter has a high evaporation point, which means you either need a butane torch or an e-nail rig that can heat up to 600 F. But rest assured, the hits are very much worth the trouble!

4. Oil

Oil

Oil is a really broad term to be used as it constitutes many different varieties of cannabis extract. From Butane Hash Oil to Rick Simpson Oil to the very beneficial CBD oil, the list of cannabis oils is endless. They owe their popularity to the fact that they can be produced at an industrial scale.

From very cheap low-quality oils to the award-winning ones, you have the endless option to find what you're looking for. But remember, there are always too many shady oils & brands, so buy only from the licensed, tested brands.

5.  Live Resin

Live-Rosin

Live Resin is one of the most celebrated and loved cannabis concentrates - and it deserves every inch of love.

Live Resin gets its name from the freshness and rawness of the plant with which it is made. Generally, cannabis products are dried or cured, before moving onto the next step. But Live Resin is produced with fresh flower and sugar leaves, bringing the purest flavour to the extract.

The flash freezing of the cannabis buds allows it to retain the desirable compounds, flavours, and of course, the tempting fragrance. Terpenes are very delicate in fresh flowers and are lost after 10-14 days when the cannabis is dried and cured. Flash freezing or blasting helps to preserve them.

The consistency of the Live Resin is more fluid than other concentrates. In fact, the more terpenes, the more fluid will be concentrated. You can find a bunch of consistencies available in different forms including sap, sugar, badder, budder, etc.

6. Distillate

Many people confuse distillate with cannabis oil, but there is a striking difference between both the types of cannabis concentrate. The distillate is a runny, translucent oil that is stripped of any wax, flavonoids, terpenes, and any other compounds that are found in the cannabis plant. Instead, it works only on a specific cannabinoid, which happens to be THC in most cases. Of course, the concentration of the THC is higher than any other concentrate since the complex extraction, separation, and purification process leads to a very potent product.

7. Rosin

Rosin

Rosin is the dankest dab of 2020 and it rightfully deserves the position. Free from any harmful chemicals, it is extracted using heat and enormous pressure to squeeze the resinous sap from the raw buds and flowers.

These are made in manufacturing units, in larger quantities which travels through the local head shop to you. But, there is also the DIY method which makes use of hair straightener and parchment paper. The resultant concentrate can range from dark green colour, which is indicative of low-quality, all the way to the honey, golden brown, gold colour.

8. Budder

Bubble Hash has a host of fans following owing it to their supreme potency and the magnificent effect.

It is made by agitating the dried and cured bud in cold water, which separates the trichomes, and then use progressively smaller screens, until what is left is just trichomes.

The colour of the hash depends on the ripeness of the cannabis, the quantity of plant material, and the size of sieve used to filter out the terpenes. From blond to red and black, look for the lighter colours as they are the most sought-after and potent.

9. Crumble

The name suggests the type of consistency you can expect from the cannabis concentrate. It is like a more brittle version of budder, but there is a difference between how they are made. Budder is made at a higher temperature while whipping, whereas crumble is left alone on low heat until the solvent evaporates. The slow heat and quiet process allow the result to retain a higher concentration of flavour.

The soft consistency of crumble makes it very convenient to be consumed. You can easily break it into sizable dabs and place it on the hot nail to be evaporated.Try the Purple Dabz CBD Crumble

11. Wax

Wax

Wax, is a soft, wax-like, amber coloured cannabis extract which is made with a great degree of agitation during the extraction process. Crumble, on the most popular form of wax, is formed when the wax is purged longer at a lower temperature.

You just need a tiny amount of wax to get a very strong high. Make sure you regulate the doses while smoking, and if you're new to this, take it slow unless you want to be seriously ripped. You can also use wax and dab pens to consume the sticky wax.

12. Kief & Dry Sift

Kief is probably the easiest and the simplest of all the concentrates. You can easily make it at home as it doesn't require any solvent-based extraction method. Kief is the accumulation of luminous trichomes on the leaves and buds of any cannabis plant that are majorly produced by the glandular resin sac. They are removed from the plant with a special filtering screen and grease, leading to the final potent product. A little less sophisticated than other concentrates, Kief can still flaunt an extremely clean and flavoursome profile with up to 60% THC content.

If you refine Kief further, you reach another non-solvent cannabis concentrate known as Dry Sieve (Dry Sift). The dry sieve only contains the trichome head that leads to the most conveniently produced hash. However, the potency depends on the amount of plant matter and trichome stalks found in the final product.

Here we come to the end of our list of extracts! A very happy 710 day to you. Enjoy dabbing, toking and spreading the love with Olivastu.
