Whether your friend who was supposed to get the bong pipe , forgot or just didn't turn up or it is too risky to keep the smoking instrument in your house, we got your back buddy!

Before we jump into the many wonderful ways to make a homemade pipe, here are some tips and tricks to get you through.

1. Keep clear off plastic bowls

I know that the desperate moment doesn't really give you enough time to put your brain into action, but make sure you stay away from plastic bowls. The obvious reason is that plastic is not heat resistant and will melt when lit. And they're pretty toxic too! You can use a plastic container to hold the smoke, but the bowl is always metal or non-plastic. 

2. Food Items - Select them carefully

If you know a thing or two about good homemade pipes, they are usually made from fruits and vegetables. I will be explaining how, but before you start, make sure the food item is not rotten, or wrinkled and clumsy. We want to have a sturdy and ripe body. Mushy food items will collapse and make this entire event unsuccessful.

3. Screening

Screening is important! It helps to keep the unwanted ash and gunk from entering your smoke and ruining your evening. Make sure you always use a screen with whatever you are smoking, whenever possible. Whether you use Metal screens, Glass or quartz screens or Brass screen; the choice is yours.

How to make a homemade pipe?

1. Apple/Fruits/Vegetables

I am starting with apples because it is the easiest fruit to work with. Once you get the mechanism, you can use it on a banana, a bell pepper, cucumbers, potatoes, or even as tiny as a strawberry. Basically, the answer to how to make a homemade pipe starts with fruits and vegetables.

Apples are my go-to fruits because they taste great, they are easily available, and well, I kinda fell in love with it in my early days, and love lasts forever. *wink wink* And the best part, it makes for an astounding homemade cannabis pipe. 

Start with a ripe apple, making sure it is strong enough to take the smoke and heat. Poke a pencil, from the top, where the stem is, all through the middle. Make sure you don't take it all the way through. This hole is used for our bowl. 

Now, making use of the pencil again, or in fact, any poking device, make a hole perpendicular to the first one, such that they meet in the middle. The holes will make a 'L' inside the apple. How do you make sure they are interconnecting? You blow through one of the holes and ensure the other is well- connected. It also helps to clear the smoke path of any chunks and bits. 

Now, time for another hole. This time on the other side of the apple, following the same process of meeting in the middle. This particular hole will act as a rush, so make sure it’s in a spot where your finger can reach while you hit it.

Take a knife or a blade to carve a bowl on the top of the apple, where we made our first hole. You have everything! A bowl, a mouthpiece, and a hole to manage your airflow. Make sure everything is clear before packing your bowl. 

Pretty sure you never had fruit this way!

2. Pen Pipe or a One-hitter

You might not have any fruit in the house, but you can always buy a cheap pen. And that's what makes this DIY so awesome. It is the easiest way to get on with your smoking plans without having to cut or crave anything. This is one of the easiest homemade pipe. 

Take a pen, making sure it has a metal cap at the nip and is easily disassembled. Remove the back part and the front nip, and take out the ink refill. 

Once you have an empty tube, place the nib on the tip the opposite way that it would normally fit on the pen. It will make a perfect V. 

Now fill it with cannabis, and light it up. Inhale from the backside of the pen, which is now your mouthpiece.

3. The SteamRoller

If you don't know what a steam roller is, it is a glass pipe that has both ends open. So when you inhale the green stuff, you cover one side of it and you get amazing hits! The next question - how do you make a homemade steamroller pipe?

So, how to make a homemade pipe with minimal access to things?

You will need an empty toilet roll or a kitchen towel roll, anything that is cylindrical. Now make a hole with a pen or screwdriver about a quarter way from one end. This is where your bowl will be placed.

To make a bowl, use aluminium foil and mould it into a conical shape. Once done, use a safety pin to poke very tiny holes in the bowl. Now place your aluminium bowl in the hole that you had carved. To seal the holel, use sellotape or blue-tack. 

Your smoking accessory is ready. Now pack your bowl with whatever you want to, and light it up. Cover the one end with your palm and take a hit from the other end. The wide area really gets the airflow going and makes an awesome hit!

4. Metal Pipe

I won't say this is a very convenient or impressive method, but desperate times call for desperate measures. It's quite simple to make a metal pipe. 

Take a trip to the hardware store, a one which has a plumbing section. Pick up parts that can be put together and make a basic metal pipe. Make sure the airflow and bowl are maintained. 

You can just play around with this method and bring a new innovative way to smoke. Either way, trust your gut.

5. Candy Pipe

I hear the word "candy" and my mouth starts watering. This method was taught to me by a friend who said - If anybody asks you how to make a homemade smoking pipe, tell them this one. As seasoned cannabis users, we get this question a lot - how to make homemade pipes and bongs - as if the whole stoner community is thriving on DIYs.

If you’re looking for creative homemade pipes, this is a great option.
To start with, you're going to need some soft candy that you can squish together. Starbursts are the general choice among DIY pipe connoisseurs, but if you can get your hands on some other soft candy, good for you!

But remember, you are going to taste some of the sweet, amazing smell and have a little bit of taste in your smoke. Like flavoured cannabis! 

Unwrap lots of starbursts and push them together to make a rectangle. Once you have it as long as you would like your pipe to be, take some more candy, and stack it on one end of the rectangle. This will act as a bowl. 

Now take a pen and poke it from the bowl part of the candy to the rectangle part, but stop halfway through it. Now carve a proper conical shaped bowl.

To make the mouthpiece, take a pencil and make a hole from the opposite end of the squished-together Starbursts. This hole is to meet the hole you’ve made for the bowl.

Pack your bowl with your favourite herbs and you're ready! Toke it away!

6. Soda can pipe

You always have that one homie in your group that lives off these DIYs, and you have seen them smoke the clouds of vapour from a simple can. It's not that hard and you get a good sturdy metal piece to smoke in! Win-win! In fact, it is one of the best homemade pipes that I have ever smoked out of. 

If you’re wondering how to make a pipe out of a simple can, you're going to need a can, of course, and a sharp object like a knife, keys, blades, etc. 

Take the object and make a hole in the side of the can, near the end. This will serve as your bowl. Make sure the hole is not jagged and is cleanly cut. 

Indent the can around the hole making a bowl pack for your herb.

For your mouthpiece, make another hole on the side of the can, making sure you don't cut your mouth. It should be smooth.

Now fill the bowl with your favourite herb or tobacco, light it, and smoke. As easy as it can be!

Similarly, you can also make a homemade bottle pipe, though people prefer soda can more than the bottle version.

7. Ice block pipe

This is a unique and not very common way of smoking a pipe, but since we are going all out in the DIYs, let's have a look at this one too! If you’re wondering how to make an ice pipe, here’s your answer to it. 

It's simple and requires only a knife and of course, a block of ice. Find a container of pipe size, preferably rectangular and freeze a large block of ice. 

Now carve a hole on the side which will act as a bowl. You can make that as small or as large as you like. For the mouthpiece and stem, carve another hole through the end. It makes for the coolest homemade pipe. 

Pack your green friend, light it, and inhale. It gives you a very smooth, cool hit, thought carving ice can be a bit of extreme sport.

8. Bamboo Pipe

Use a plant to smoke a plant! That's my favourite way to address how to make a homemade pipe question. ;)

This homemade marijuana pipe might not seem like the first choice, but trust me, it makes for a splendid smoking session.

If you have access to a thin piece of bamboo, take 2 inches wide bamboo and cut it. Make sure that one end is covered with the wood membrane while the other end is cleanly cut off. Drill a hole on the membrane end of the bamboo stick and use the wood to make a bowl. Make a hole on the clean end, which will act as your mouthpiece. 

You have a mouthpiece and a bowl ready! Now all you have to do is smoke it away. 

9. Baguette Pipe

Don't think I am crazy. trust me, this has been done before. It is one of the weirdest DIY homemade pipes, but you never know what might work. 

Baguette is a very common bakery item, particularly made in France but you can get them in every bakery and cake shop. All you have to do is drill a hole on one point end which will be used as a mouthpiece. On the other end, drill a hole, a little smaller for the bowl. You may want to use a metal bowl or aluminium since you cannot pack the herbs directly in the baguette. 

Light it up and toke like a French gangsta!

10. Pringles Pipe

The last on our list of "how to make a homemade pipe" is this very easy method. 

You remember the steam roller pipe discussed on #3. This is pretty much the same, except you won't have to cover one end with your palm. Since the material is stronger than the cardboard, you may also have to use a drilling machine or a sharp object to carve a perfect hole.
